I have spent a lifetime fishing the local streams around Potsdam. The water quality in these brooks needs to be examined. I recently fished Parkhurst Brook, stopping at eight road crossings in Colton, Parishville, and Potsdam, catching not one fish, none. Twenty years ago the same trip regularly resulted in a limit of nice brook trout. Anyone drinking water in the Village of Potsdam should be concerned with Parkhurst Brook, it flows into the Raquette River just north of the village and into the water treatment plant. This brook is dead. Why? Where is the DEC? How about a water quality study now? Could Potsdam be the next Flint, Michigan? Our elected officials and community leaders need to take a look at this issue.
