I just read (on NorthCountryNow.com Aug. 12) that St. Lawrence County is under a flash flood watch as we may receive up to seven inches of rain. The article goes on to say that due to the recent drought condition, precipitation runoff will be higher than normal leading to the potential for isolated flash flooding. Since it wasn’t raining at the time I thought I would run a few errands. As I crossed the bridge in Hannawa Falls, I glanced at the dam and noticed that the water level was at the top of the splashboards. I would have thought the level would be down some to leave room to absorb some of the potential runoff. I hope that Brookfield is aware of the situation and are preparing for a worst-case situation.
