I agree with the writer of Wizard of Oz, (“Beware of One District”, Mar. 2-8). This same suggestion about consolidation studies is all over the state, but in St. Lawrence County the wizard wants to protect BOCES at the expense of students. Has he noticed the cost of fuel? Putting kids on buses for longer rides is not only a waste of time, but also a waste of money. And bigger schools are not better for kids. Tell the truth about that. Why not share superintendents? In many places a superintendent is responsible for many buildings, not just one. Isn’t it time to share central offices, which have little affect on students? Oh, but that would mean he and his cronies doing more work and less long meetings and luncheons. Bet superintendents are recommending that to their boards. Can’t do that, it is better to cut teachers and programs for students.
