Wait staff deserves better treatment

I was eating at a favorite local restaurant of mine the other day and witnessed something that bothered me very much. A mother and her young son were eating at a table when the boy told his mother “Mom, I want to work here when I grow up.” The mother said to him, very loudly, “I think that you should go to college so you can do whatever you want and you don’t have to work in a place like this.” Their waitress was about two feet away cleaning another table, and I know that if I overheard she must have too. I go to this restaurant a lot and I know many of the girls there well since I take the time to talk to them. Many of them are in college or have graduated and are working but still need more money to help out with bills. Others didn’t go to college but they work really hard and do an excellent job, and they work there because they like the work. I think it is so rude to say something like that, especially in front of your waitress. These girls are all great girls and deserve better, and I’m sure they all depend on tips to pay their bills, so maybe you should treat them better and tip them well since they work so hard for you. Thank you.
