After reading the comments on village dissolution (“NCNow Survey” on NorthCountryNow.com), one comment got my attention. Why does the village even need the town? We have all the infrastructure that they want. They just want for free what we have spent years building up. So why doesn’t the village secede from the town? It is my understanding that if we dissolve we still have to pay tax for water, sewer, fire and other things through special districts that will need to be set up. Where is the savings? If we secede and create our own town, then we no longer have to pay the Potsdam Town tax. As it is now, they tax us even though the village provides the service. Get the town tax off our bills and then we will see some real savings. I don’t know if this is a viable option but since we have a dissolution committee set up, why don’t they study the pros and cons of this idea.
