Now that the weather is nice, high school kids are hanging out with friends, proms are being held and other celebrations. Unfortunately, there seems to be an abundance of alcohol present at these parties. It was brought to my attention that a young 14 year-old was extremely intoxicated a recent gathering. This person was so intoxicated they could not stand up. Apparently the parents where the party was held had no idea the alcohol was even there. Someone attending the party brought it with them; no doubt from their parents liquor cupboard. We, as parents, need to be aware of what is happening in your backyards. What if this young person died of alcohol poisoning? Who would be responsible? I realize kids are going to drink. We need to educate our kids on how dangerous it can be. It’s not cool to get so wasted. I’m not a prude, I lived it up too as a teenager, now and then, but times have changed. Let’s prevent a tragedy. I remember the song by Huey Lewis, “It’s hip to be square” And it really is.
