Troopers are needed

This is in response to “More Troopers” which ran in the March 4-10 issues of North Country This Week. The ten new troopers are here to receive their actual field training while accompanied by experienced troopers. All ten will not be assigned to the county once field training is complete. They can be sent to wherever to fill vacancies, whether it be in Troop B, or, anywhere in the state. The new troopers will fill the openings created by the loss of personnel due to retirement, resignation, or death. And, once their field training is completed, and, if they were assigned to this area, they can then request transfer to any area of the state. So, to say there are more troopers added to the county is incorrect. As for the presence of troopers on your daily travels, let me ask you this: would you rather have too few troopers available to answer complaints or calls for help? The local sheriff's department does a fine job. But, as they will tell you, they do not have the manpower - or resources - to provide the level of law enforcement service that the state police can, and do on a daily basis. As to the tickets being written, remember, they are only doing their job. If those receiving tickets were not doing something wrong, then, they would have nothing to worry about.
