In response to “Townies Use Services” (Sound Off, June 29-July 5), I guess I am one of the townies, but I don’t see your point that I use the village services at your expense. You mentioned people going to hockey games, going to the hospital, buying groceries, and going to school in the village. The last time I checked I already pay lots of school taxes. The hockey games, I pay to see, and the colleges maintain the parking lots, not the village. If it is a game at Pine Street, I already pay for Potsdam recreation tax. Yes, I buy my groceries in Potsdam but the village does not maintain their parking lot or sidewalks either. In fact most of the shopping is done outside the village thanks to the village running Wal-Mart out side of the village. Yes, we use the hospital when needed but there again the hospital maintains its own parking lots and sidewalks there also and we pay dearly when we go there. Oh yes, there is the library, there is a service that we use but there again we already pay a library tax too. So I guess you are right. I do use some of the services in the village, but I already pay for them.
