Though I applaud the President of the Clarkson Pep Band for coming forward and publicly apologizing (“Clarkson Pep Band President Apologizes For Members Who Chanted About Santa In Front Of Kids At Game Vs. SLU, NorthCountryNow.com news, Feb. 7), I believe that I like many other people in the community would think it is too little, too late. For years they have been horrible fans, taunting visiting goalies, fans, etc. Since they are located in the “general” admission section at Cheel, we have stopped taking our family to hockey games as the coarse language, ignorant behavior and incidents such as this are offensive to me, my wife and something I would not want to have my small children seeing. It appears that their behaviors and antics have only gotten worse over the years, and seemingly go unchecked by the administration. I have many friends who are alums, who played in the pep band and indicate that this is not normal behavior, nor is it something to be proud of. Maybe it is time to silence the band until they can be true ambassadors of such a fine institution.
