There is no fix. Not now. We can fight until our last breath. Perhaps, it is more honorable that way. But it struck me today that battling Alcoa merely leaves us weaker. We could struggle and war against the callous company. Our troops would stand proud, ragged yet proud. And we would lose. For a while the pride would sustain us, lift us so far above the rubble we cannot see the damage, only the Massena that once was. Pride must be fueled and time extinguishes passions. The veil would lift to the ravages of war. There is no fix. Not now. It is time to grieve for we have lost. However, soon it will be time for us to unite not under a common enemy but a common heritage. This is our home. It was never Alcoa’s. Let us stand together to build up our community. Alcoa’s departure has shaken us. It may knock us down. It may force us to leave. It may make us small. However, it does not have the power to destroy. For a home can only be destroyed by its family. We may falter in this time. We may fight and we may walk out. Yet our home is forever with us. Massena remains. There is no fix. Not now. But there is hope. And that is a fight worth starting. That is a fight we must all take on together.
