It’s official. The terrorists have won. It seems that everywhere I look we are being terrorized by our own. The state is laying off teachers, school programs have been cut and school and property taxes in St. Lawrence County are no longer affordable. Yet, we have found the money and resources to fund the roadblocks we endure when the U.S. Border Patrol sets up 40 miles inland. There are many more troopers based out of Massena than there were 10 years ago. The last time I drove there, I counted 11 State Troopers and 4 Border Patrol Agents. Does no one else notice this? We, the taxpayers of New York State, are responsible for the expensive salary, benefits, and retirement of these men and women, not to mention the cost of the vehicles and fuel it takes for them to patrol, when we can barely fill our own tanks. Don’t even think of going out for dinner and a drink. The risk of being pulled over unwarranted is far too prevalent these days. It’s no wonder all of the bars and restaurants in the area are closing. Enough is enough.
