So, if I understand correctly, the support staff and administration at Massena Central School already contribute to health insurance; the support staff is the lowest paid group of employees at the school; and both of these groups have agreed to a pay freeze for the upcoming school year. The teachers do not contribute to health insurance and will still get a 3.3% pay hike if they agree to a salary freeze, but they will not agree to the freeze? Okay, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see who is really trying to help the taxpayers out in these hard times. However, I also take issue with the statement that it may be only a couple of union leaders refusing to take the freeze; is it not possible for the rank and file to override a few union leaders and do the right thing by agreeing to the freeze? I realize that it is the union leaders’ mission to protect their members, but cannot understand why those members cannot go against the union to give concessions in light of the fact that the rest of the school did.
