Taxpaying voters have spoken! We do not want to fund a recreation department. The Potsdam Town leadership should reconsider whether they will continue to use any taxpayer funds for a recreation program. The Village of Potsdam leadership will probably be intimidated and forced to reconsider their decision to cease funding for recreation. The very future of the existence of the village is at stake. Voters backed away from dissolving the village because everyone who receives services without paying taxes voted to save the village and taxpayers listened to the promise that efforts would be made to reduce the property tax burden. Defunding recreation was a good start toward keeping that promise. Non-essential services like the recreation program should be funded by user fees, grants and donations.
