We have very seldom vacationed and instead invested in our house saying we’ll enjoy the money here all the time not just a week and have our money be gone. As a result we have a lovely home that we work constantly on and enjoy lots of family time there. But in the last five to seven years our taxes have gone through the roof; on our main house that is assessed at $225,000 we pay $8,700 in school and property tax. That is $725 a month! That is more than a lot of mortgages. Very few can afford this on top of a mortgage. We are being taxed out of our houses! I do agree with the fact that universities and hospitals need to contribute! Clarkson recently built theme housing, taking away again from downtown where at least there were some rentals that made the dollar move. They are now revamping Old Snell for rental property for graduate students. Clarkson bought property on Maple Street for about $800,000 that is now off the tax roll. Come on, they seem to have plenty of money to buy up property and then not have to pay any tax on it. Taxpayers just can’t carry the full burden. It is killing our schools and community!
