In response to “Stop the Blame Game” which appeared in the Jan. 13-19 issue of North Country This Week: It is a fact that Clarkson, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam State and any other tax exempt places do put quite a burden on home owners no matter who they employ. The hospital buys and tears down homes. That takes them off the tax roll and puts a burden on us taxpayers. Clarkson and Potsdam State are putting up housing for the students which hurts the people that had apartments for them. They are paying to the college for housing not the common taxpaying landlord. They are hurting the community. It's not a blame game; it's very factual. Do your homework; then you would know. The village and town landowners, that pay taxes, pay a lot more than they should. No matter who complains about the toilet gardens at least Hank pays taxes! He did stick it to us when he sold to Clarkson because now that land is tax exempt. Think about that! CPH, Clarkson and all the others should pay taxes. There is absolutely nothing wrong with speaking out against them.
