After reading “Congdon Hall Work Begins This Fall” in the July 1-7 issue of North Country This Week, about Clarkson building 72 apartments downtown, I thought about all the housing that has been added to Potsdam over the past few years. Clarkson has added a third story to some of there dorms, they are building houses for fraternities and sororities on their hill campus, and I have heard there are plans to build more student housing in the future. SUNY Potsdam added a large number of town houses. This is all tax-free housing; we have enough tax free situations in Potsdam. Just look at all the properties for sale and the vacant business. I hope that someone steps up and looks out for those of us who try to make a quality life here and try to keep a home for our families.
Editor’s note: While the Snell building is being leased from Clarkson University, Omni Development Corp. Chief Operating Officer Duncan Barrett said Omni will be paying taxes on the property.
