In response to "State Tax Cap Tough On Area School Districts" which appeared in the Sept. 12-18 issue of North Country This Week: While it is nice to read about the effectiveness that the 2% tax cap has on containing runaway school taxes, it was very obvious that the school authorities still don't get it - as if we taxpayers are supposed to feel for them. Perhaps a well written story chronicling some of the elderly or poor who have had to give up properties due to back taxes they couldn't pay - or moved to less expensive areas would paint the other side to the district difficulties which sound very hollow in the fragile economy our area deals with in reality.
