In response to “Toilet Garden is Art, Not a Protest, Owner Says,” which appeared in the March 28 - April 3 issue of North Country This Week: I totally agree with Roger Willmart's claim that his tastefully decorated toilets on his properties are art. They certainly capture the attention of anyone entering and leaving the town and have become a discussion point for all who see them. In fact, they are so unique and creative that I am surprised an art expert, perhaps someone from the colleges, has not expressed the increased value that they add to his properties. They add hundreds of thousands of dollars to each of those properties. Since Potsdam seems to be in a perpetual financial slump, perhaps a re-assessment of these properties to include their true artistic value could help raise many more thousands in needed property taxes.
