Why with all the state land we have in the North Country and in the Adirondacks can’t the state lease out 100- to 200-acre pieces of forestland to people to create sugar bushes? They would have to have a long-term lease to protect their investment, but it would create jobs and income for the North Country, and take some of the tax burden on those lands off the state. It’s time to think outside the box. We have thousands of acres of state land close to roads that could be utilized with out interfering with the “forever wild” stuff.
