It’s no secret that most school districts these days are facing huge budget gaps and are under severe pressure to balance budgets without cutting teachers and programs. However, it may be a secret that these local school districts fund St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, which is loaded with fat. I went to their website (www.sllboces.org) and could not believe their organizational chart and list of employees is 49 pages long. I am still in shock over how many non-instructional positions exist at BOCES. According to the org chart, there are over 550 employees, 60 positions are titled as clerks, secretaries, administrative assistants or keyboard specialists, 36 are superintendents, administrators, managers, supervisors, principals, or directors. I think it is time to start looking for some money from BOCES before we cut any more local school budgets.
