I encourage the members of the Potsdam Central School community to vote in favor of the proposed capital project on Dec. 12 at the high school auditorium. Infrastructure needs are significant and 86 percent of the $18 million will be covered by NYS. The remaining cost will be covered by savings put aside for just such projects and by a tax levy on property owners. This local tax levy portion will be covered by monies we’re already paying each year on two current debts. So, when it is time to start paying the new capital debt, there will be no additional impact on taxes as a result of this project. While it is true that taxes could have gone down when the two existing debts were retired, it is also true that the work is desperately needed. Please remember to vote.
