I have noticed several events advertised in early June as Summer Festivals or mid-summer sales. I find it amusing that calendars are a challenge and it explains why summer is over for most of the North Country by the end of July. Summer begins on June 21, the summer solstice, and it ends on Sept. 22, the autumn equinox. I know we all suffer the long, cold winters, but the calendar doesn’t lie, and I wonder on August days and weekends why there aren’t events planned. The weather is gorgeous in August and the bugs are thinned out. Let’s savor the summer in and stop planning everything for three or four weekends in July.
