The Center for Missing and Exploited Children recommends that parents refuse to give permission for their school/library/sports club/news media to publish pictures of their children along with their first name. A stranger who sees a picture of “7 year-old John Smith at soccer practice in (insert town)” in the local paper would have significant information to try to lure the child away. I only allow newspapers or the school to print the first initial of my sons’ first names, and then their last name. I certainly would never approve of having their picture, first name and our street name published together. Unfortunately “stranger danger” is still a very real concern for St. Lawrence County parents.
