Responding to: “Lots for Kids to Explore,” (Sound Off, NorthCountryNow.com, Feb. 21): As a parent and a past PTO president I can tell you that taking field trips can be very expensive-renting/using buses, paying admissions, etc. I think going to the grocery store is a great idea--sure your child goes there weekly but do you stop and explain all the specifics to them? Do you point out the value of certain vegetables or give them a behind-the-scenes tour of all the things that go on? I think in this day and age of childhood obesity and people not being as healthy it is a wonderful idea to introduce them to all a grocery store has to offer. To my knowledge Head Start is not a program paid with tuitions or something parents participate in fundraisers for, so I think any effort they put into taking children somewhere deserves applause.
