In response to “Fair Share” which ran in the March 25 edition of North Country This Week, I believe that all residents of the Town of Colton do not mind paying their fair share for the services provided. Those that evidently do not want to pay their share are Erie Boulevard Hydropower, who contested the assessments of their dam properties that Brookfield operates. They have a projected revenue of $500k-$1M per year and employ 1-4 people, according to manta.com. They also control the majority of the Racquette River, providing only token access to appear cooperative. For a company that stole an entire river from local citizens in order to reap massive profits, you would think that they would be more willing to pay an increased amount of taxes rather than burdening the townspeople. Think again.
