In my apartment building there are multiple units. Of the multiple units there are two who have tenants who smoke, inside their apartments and outside their apartments. One of the smokers lives in the unit next door to me and we share a stairwell. This tenant smokes in his/her apartment and attempts to keep the smell down by using air fresheners and keeping his/her apartment clean. The air fresheners help but you can still smell the cigarette smoke. The other smoker lives downstairs from me; this tenant tends to smoke outdoors below my bedroom window. The smoke carries into my bedroom. While I understand it is everyone’s right to do what they want with their own bodies I also think I have the right to not want the secondhand smoke around my lodgings and my family. Smoking should not be allowed in buildings that share ventilation with multiple apartments.
