In response to “Merge Large With Small:” No! Parishville-Hopkinton Central School is fiscally better off than Potsdam, and my tax rate is much lower than Potsdam’s. Why would I want to pay more to fund Potsdam’s budget? Can you guarantee that my school taxes would not increase over the $300 I pay now? Let me guess, because my children would have more opportunities? Ha! Well there are still only 11 soccer players, 5 basketball players, only so many seats on the stage for band available. Then the practical side, will parents be able to provide transportation to weekend practices, will students want to stay after and ride that bus out of town? Do you realize how large The PHCS district is geographically? How about fair representation on the school board? What’s the chance of someone from Hopkinton running and winning a seat on the board? The big schools got themselves into this problem by not acting fiscally responsible, building sporting facilities and showing off to smaller districts. This is Potsdam’s problem, not ours!
