In response to “No Hipocrisy” (Sound Off, Dec. 7-13): No in fact, responding in such a manner to the puppy beater as that animal endured would hardly make one a hypocrite: In effect it would send a very clear message in the language this individual can understand that such behavior is unacceptable, period, the end. Assuming all people speak the same “language” behaviorally is truly a fallacy. However, since such an outcome (as was suggested by a number of posters) will not occur, the point is moot in any event. No doubt the perp will get a slap on the wrist legally. I’m not a “PETA” person. Nonetheless, the ‘hypocrisy’ of those who feel outrage at such behavior and in recognition of the realities of the Criminal Justice System are more likely to have seen such behavior previously and understand very clearly the limits of sentencing for such behavior. “Hypocrites” are more likely than not realists.
