In response to “Shame on Officer” (July 6 – 12), the driver had the same choice to stop as soon as the officer had his lights on to pull him over. As a licensed driver, we are to obey the laws of the road. He wasn’t. He was speeding. The officer was doing his duty by pulling the speeder over and issuing a ticket. As a lawful abiding driver, he should have pulled over instantly to make sure that nobody, even in the surrounding area, would be harmed. I am sorry for your loss, but the fact remains that the officer was doing his duty, and the driver was breaking the law by speeding and not obeying the law or the officer trying to enforce it.
