For years I donated dog and cat food to the Potsdam Humane Society only to find out recently that they feed their animals a specific kind of dog and cat foot obtained from a certain company. The donated food is given to people in the community who claim they can’t afford buying it for their animals. A large sign at the entrance should inform people of those facts. The staff also needs to be clearer on this issue when people come in with their food donations. I brought in dog and cat food for years and they never told me it was not going to be used for shelter animals. I was outraged when I found out! My opinion is, if people can’t afford feeding their animals, they have no right owning them. People shouldn’t depend on the shelter to provide them with free food from donations.
