In response to “Turn on Your Lights” which appeared in the Jan. 18-24 issue of North Country This Week: I am appalled that the author tried to turn the issue into one of gender bias. This issue is not a female driver issue and it is insulting to insinuate that. Before these opinion pieces popped up I didn't normally pay attention to who has lights on and who doesn’t. Now, I am more aware and decided to take a scientific approach to the problem. Leaving work in Canton at 4:30 p.m. and heading to Massena I counted 127 cars that I met, 23 of which did not have on their headlights. It was foggy and misty, I couldn't believe the high number. I repeated it the following night where I counted 139 cars, 26 without lights, two of which were state troopers. Maybe it's time for NCTW to run a story on the legalities of headlights; when they are required by law. Common sense says you should be using them. It's dangerous.
