In response to the Nov. 1-7 North Country This Week front page article “PCS Planning for Later Start to School Day: Potsdam’s idea of starting school later in the day was given no real thought; I don’t know who they sent out letters to but I didn’t get one. This idea is stupid. Most typical jobs start at 8 not 9 a.m., so what happens when you change? Do I tell my boss that I am sorry the school thinks my kids need more sleep now they have to start school at 9:30 a.m.? This won’t fly. I can’t believe most people are in favor of this plan. I not sure which Google study you looked up to see how kids might benefit in Sweden or Japan…but they go to school almost year round where we don’t. If kids are tired, parents need to send them to bed earlier — there’s a fresh idea. You won’t need any more bus drivers and it won’t cost the taxpayer any more. Also, parents won’t have to wonder who will have to go in late every day to put the kids on the bus just so they can meet PCS extra sleep requirements.
