In response to “Winter Walking” in the Dec. 7-13 edition of North Country This Week: yes, sidewalks are impossible in winter, but don't blame the public works folks. The walks outside the village center, such as Grant Street, where I walk, are old and uneven, consisting in places of sandstone blocks, and are impossible to clear smoothly. Grant, at least, is wide enough to permit walkers and cars. It's safe provided walkers wear visible clothing and walk on the left side. Flashlights at night are a good idea.
