As a St. Lawrence hockey fan I enjoy the rivalry between SLU and Clarkson, but was really turned off by Clarkson’s Pep Band during the women’s game at SLU. The band was up to their usual antics when some of the younger SLU fans (maybe 10 or 12 years old?) tried to ‘taunt’ them back. The Pep Band retorted by cheering, “Santa’s not real!” over and over. I was so unimpressed by their lack of class and consideration for the young children in the arena. Three rows in front of me sat a mother and (what I assume is) her 6- or 7-year-old daughter. The girl asked: “What do they mean Santa’s not real?” I wouldn’t have known how to answer, and that mother shouldn’t have had to answer a question like that. Shame on you, Clarkson University for allowing your pep band to represent your fine institution in such a horrible way. I hope there are repercussions for them. As for that little girl? God bless her mother who quickly answered: “They are just jealous because Santa is a SLU fan.”
