In response to “Stone Ages Forever” which appeared in the Aug. 17-23 issue of North Country This Week: you think you’re in the only place that has to drive to go places and it’s because of bad roads we are not getting businesses up here? Part of that problem is taxes not roads. Have you been to Lake Placid or any place in the Adirondacks? Have you been on their roads, they are no better than here and if anyone there wants to go to a store big enough to get all their needs, they have to drive to Plattsburgh, or Glen Falls, or Malone. Yes, they have some food stores, but they are not big enough to carry what a Hannaford, or Price Chopper does. If the kids want to go roller skating, again check the larger places they have to go to; sure there are lots of things to see, but there are draw backs there too. Then again, have you been there on any weekend when there are events going on, and there are very few weekends there is not something going on. Yes they have lots to do, but again their roads are no better than here. We all need better roads. But the state does not have money to get them all done at one time and by the time they get a few done and start on others … the ones that were done need to be done again.
