Retiring flags respectfully

Thank you to the American Legion and other veterans’ organizations for collecting and retiring unserviceable flags with dignity. Too often, we see torn and soiled flags whipping in the breeze, with no heed for time of day, lighting, or condition of the flag. If you love the flag, and what it represents, please treat it with dignity and retire it when it is torn, badly faded, or soiled. If you do not feel comfortable with cutting the canton (blue part) off and cutting apart the stripes to be burnt entirely, feel free to go to the local American Legion or other veterans’ organization and give it to them to retire.
