In response to “Where Did the Signs Go?,” There have been a handful of “Soundoffs” regarding the new town signs that have been erected in Colton. My personal opinion about the appearance of the signs is irrelevant, as it is nothing more than my opinion. My concern is that people in the town were not given the chance to offer their input. Last year, Potsdam held a contest for artists to design their new town signs, and residents were allowed to vote on their favorite design at the summer festival. This would have been a great thing for Colton to do at the annual Colton Country Days festival. Each resident of Colton would have felt like they were involved in this decision. Unfortunately, this did happen, and even the town board seems somewhat puzzled as to how this design was chosen. I think the previous “Soundoffs” are more about how the design was chosen, than about the design itself.
