Living off a minimum wage income it’s near impossible to find a place to rent that we can afford. We are desperate to move our kids out of this bug infested, uninsulated, moldy, noisy nightmare that our landlord over charges us for but there is just nowhere to go. Sure we could call code enforcement but we still have nowhere to go if it’s condemned. It seems more people are buying two or three run down apartments just to rent them as-is and live solely off the rent money, as soon as the renters complain about the conditions they are evicted. It’s really sad that I know people on welfare who own nice houses but we are always on the brink of homelessness. The state should buy up the hundreds of abandoned houses sitting unused around the county and rent them at low cost to those like us who are out of options
