I recently began subbing in the Lawrence Avenue Elementary School and I have learned there are some unsung heroes in our midst. I am referring to the hard-working people who perform the thankless job of recess monitors - Louise Elliott, Tasha Newcombe, and Nate Zehr-Sachs. While the teachers remain inside, these folks are out there with multiple classes at once. Spring, fall, or winter - hot, freezing cold, or windy they are out there. Taking responsibility for many children. We all understand that recess is the time for the children to run off their energy, which means kids here, then there, then everywhere! This is no easy job, and I just want to thank these folks and give a shout out for all they do. When you see them, please thank them. Perhaps the cafeteria crew could send out cups of coffee to warm them up on a chilly day! A small thing, true, but what a great way to say, "we appreciate you Louise, Tasha, and Nate! Thanks for taking such good care of our children!”
