In response to “Healthcare Protest” in the Jan. 25-31 issue of North Country This Week: the writer suggests that the 300 people who came to the protest Jan. 20 made up only a small fraction of the county population. Based on this, they concluded that the rest of the North Country was in favor of the ACA repeal. One has to wonder if this logic applies elsewhere. There was no March for Life event. Does that mean that the entirety of the area must be in favor of abortion? No, it does not. There are dozens of reasons why supporters of the protest could not make it to a rally. Furthermore, the 300 attendees, as well as the 200 who rallied Jan. 29, represent two of the largest protests that I have seen in what is typically a protest -free area. This is far from evidence of the community’s lack of interest in those issues - it is the opposite.
