I am writing in regard to the main American flag displayed in the Pleasant Mound Cemetery in Colton. First, the flag has been displayed at half-mast since the Memorial Day service. The flag should have been raised to full staff that day at noon, as protocol dictates. Secondly, the snaps which attach the flag to the halyard are too close for the grommets located on the flag's hoist. They should be further apart. The flag as it is now attached is bunched. Thirdly, the flag is too small for the size of the pole it is displayed from. The length of the flag should be at least 1/4 the height of the flagpole. As I travel through Colton quite often, I have noticed that many of the American flags displayed at the various public buildings are left flying at night, without benefit of being properly lighted…specifically, the flags at the town hall, library, and at the intersection of State routes 56 and 68. To the leaders of Colton I say this, if you are going to display our nation's flag, then do it correctly or please don't display it all. It is disrespectful to our flag and to our veterans.
