Predators major threat

Regarding the topic of feral cats there was one very important factor that was omitted. When someone dumps a household pet into the wild they not only suffer from the elements and hunger. They are subjected to a huge variety of predators – coy dogs/hawks/owls/fishers are notorious predators. Do people really want to think their pet cat will die in such a violent manner? If you can’t keep your pet, consider euthanasia. It would be far better than leaving it to the predators, starvation or sickness. If hunger and the cold doesn’t kill your left-behind pet, a predator or car will take its life. They deserve a better ending than that. If people can’t afford to spay, they truly shouldn’t be getting pets at all. Check out our local shelters. They are loaded to the rafters with pets needing a home. At least they have a chance. Left in the wild to fend for themselves they have slim to none.
