Potsdam resident forced to sell home because of high taxes

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Town of Potsdam. I purchased my home in 2009 because I could afford the taxes and the mortgage for myself and my three children. Unfortunately, in July 2011 we lost our home due to a fire. I did everything I was supposed to. I had insurance on the home. The insurance company did what they were supposed to do and ensured that I was able to rebuild the home on the exact spot. I had a four-bedroom home and I replaced it with a four bedroom home. No garage, nothing extra, just the same size house. However, because the home is new, Potsdam has decided that it is now worth twice as much as my previous home and has reassessed my property and now my taxes have increased. Due to the tax increase I can no longer afford to live in my home and was forced to put it up for sale this past week. More interesting is that when you look at the tax maps, my home, which is smaller, less land and less amenities is assessed much higher than other homes in the immediate area.
