In response to “County Health Insurance” which ran in Nov. 14-20 issue of North Country This Week: I was a GM employee and can understand what this person is trying to say. More job cuts for the county employees, I have heard that now the psychiatric department isn’t doing too good; with their director leaving it sounds like what happened with the Public Health Department. As I said, I speak from experience as I was a GM employee. I am a high school graduate and have never seen another job like that one. I finally had to take a 60 percent pay cut, not to mention cut in insurance, time off, overtime, etc. But I am glad to have a job. I am thinking maybe we are expecting too much? Are our union reps expecting too much? We obviously cannot compete with other countries. My advice to all these folks losing their jobs, county and Alcoa, save what you can and start looking at ways to cut corners. You are in for some rough road ahead. There are few jobs in the area and none that will pay what you are used to. As usual, the blue- collar workers are the first to go and I am sure these are all good, hardworking people. I believe there are no emergency extensions in unemployment anymore. Just the standard 26 weeks. Good luck to all of you.
