Pet death owner’s fault?

I couldn’t agree more with the other letters regarding pet owner responsibilities. I still have a scar on my forehead from years ago when there were neither seat belts or child safety seats in cars. My mother stomped on the brakes to avoid a dog who ran out in the road and I flew into the dashboard. I have both dogs and a cat. The dogs are under my control at all times outside and inside and the 18-year-old cat has never been allowed outdoors. If you valued your dog as much as you want me to believe, that dog would not have been in the road. Irresponsible pet owners should not be allowed to adopt or purchase another potential “road kill.” Yes, it would have been considerate for the driver to stop; it would have been far more “considerate” if your pet had been under your control. If you can’t “afford” to train your dog to stay in your yard, buy a fence or hire a dog walker because you can’t or won’t then you don’t deserve the “gift” these animals bring to our lives. That beautiful animal is dead most fundamentally because of your irresponsible behavior. Let’s place the “blame” squarely where it belongs and it’s not the driver.
