I have watched with great interest as local hockey teams have all headed to Nationals this past week. These teams are all “pay-to-play” and only the parents of children who play on these teams pay for the expense of ice time, travel, equipment, etc. I applaud these young men and women for such successful seasons and urge our local school districts to encourage more pay-to-play for sports and other extracurricular activities. Given the cut in state aid, and the lack of extra money in my paycheck, it makes sense that only those who play these extremely expensive sports pay. A booster club supporting families who can’t afford to pay already exists. This idea is one in which its time has come.
