I would like to make a few suggestions to the school board at Edwards-Knox. First, give Mr. Whitmarsh a raise. Second, give him a two-week paid vacation. Third, have Mrs. LaRue drive the bus for those two weeks. According to the news on WPDM, the 7-year-old boy had been corrected four previous times. Apparently the parent did nothing about that. The worse thing for a parent to do for their child is to defend the child for bad behavior. The message parents send is that it’s okay to do bad things because mom (or dad) will be there to protect, no matter what. They will threaten anybody who tries to correct their child with legal action. Mrs. LaRue, you are leading your son to very serious problems in 10 years. You are also sending a bad message to all kids—you do not need to respect adults, teachers, bus drivers, or other children. If a child constantly misbehaves on a school bus, then the parents should provide the transportation. Don’t condemn the driver who is trying to provide a safe environment for all the children in his care.
