In response to “Breastfeeding in Church,” which appeared in the Aug. 30 - Sept. 5 issue of North Country This Week: I would like to invite the author to research the myriad depictions in Latin iconography of the blessed Virgin Mary breastfeeding our lord Jesus Christ. A cursory Google search of Maria Lactans should suffice. I can count over 100 examples stretching from the 3rd to the 19th century. Or would the author rather banish the Christian artistic tradition to the realms pornography? I suggest the author spend more time adoring the blessed sacrament than ogling my breastfeeding wife. The pious practice of St. Louis-Marie de Montfort may also be adopted, who, when asked about the beauty of Parisian architecture could not comment on it, as he practiced custody of his eyes to such an extent that he never saw the Parisian skyline for looking always at the ground.
