Offer helping hand

In response to "Disgusting Properties" which appeared in the May 18-24 issue of North Country This Week: I hear and can relate to the person's unhappiness with messy properties in their neighborhood. There are too many of them around here. I too have a house in my neighborhood that is quickly turning into a dump site. I also know for a fact that the person who lived there passed away a few months ago. The place was kept tidy while the resident was alive, so I can only think this person's family is trying to clean up the place but does not have the resources - time or money. Instead of judging and complaining about something you see as a problem, how about asking questions or even going so far as to offer a helping hand. Even if you still need to send a code enforcer to the property - at least you could do it with some discretion and understanding.
