I don't understand how being a carnivore who doesn't want to see pictures of dead animals greeting me when viewing Northcountrynow.com or North Country This Week makes me a hypocrite. Yes, I eat meat. No, I don't want to see pictures of dead animals, be they trophies in the field or in a slaughterhouse. There are many human activities that I'd rather not have presented in a front page photo. I also think the rationalization that hunting ensures my survival by culling those beasts who would otherwise maul or kill me is a bit overblown. Yes, incidents do happen, but I seriously doubt that the absence of hunting would result in the overrunning of civilization. Hunters I know hunt for enjoyment and recreation, not out of some altruistic impulse. I am not anti-hunting; if you want to hunt then go hunt. However, my not wanting to see your kills on the front page does not make me a hypocrite who needs to move. It just makes me someone who doesn't care to see those pictures when looking for the news.
